Search Engine Land recently printed some awesome charts about mobile search by vertical category. It shows precisely why it is so important that you have a mobile optimized website.

In the important restaurant category, for instance, 59% of smartphone owners searched for a restaurant via their mobile phone, thus making restaurants the highest category of all those analyzed.

Mobile searchers are tending to look for rather basic information such as hours of operation, address, and directions.  In fact, in the same restaurant category, 47% were looking for restaurant directions, because they have a primary need right now.  They are hungry!

It certainly makes sense that grocery searchers didn’t want to travel too far or their milk might get warm, but if you are going to see a Springsteen concert, heck we’d travel pretty far!
